Las Terrenas and the «100km of the Caribbean»

For its 6th edition of the “100 km of the Caribbean” race took place from 5 to 9 June 2019 on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.

Like every year, the last round of this marathon took place on the Samanà Peninsula, over a distance of 50 km.

Bringing together marathons enthusiasts from all over the world, this race started on Saturday 8 June from Playa Popy at 6:30 am, the first athletes reaching the finish line at the end of the noon.

The course of the race allowed its participants to discover the riches of the province (the hills of the coffee road, the Limon waterfall, and the beaches of Limon and Portillo) and, to overcome its many difficulties, the steep slopes, Rios to cross and extreme heat.

The first time by the Venezuelan athlete, José Angler Rondon, in 5h10 gives an indication of the high level of the participants in this annual performance.

In parallel with the “100km es Caraibes” race, a 1.5km race was organized for children under 13 years of age starting from Punta Popy to introduce these young participants to a marathon career.
