THE DOMINICAN JOE FOUNDATION Las Terrenas

Every child deserves a chance. That chance begins with education.

The "Dominican Joe Foundation" is dedicated to implementing literacy programs for underprivileged youth throughout the Dominican Republic.

The Foundation was formally established in 2012, but the history dates back to 2006 when a group of Americans visited the Dominican Republic for a real estate project.
From their first moments in the country, Joe and his group were accepted by its people with open arms and welcomed into numerous homes.
Since then, for over eight years, this group, headed by Salvatore Joseph Rizzo “Dominican Joe” returned to the Dominican Republic where the hospitality and kindness of the country’s people make them built personal relationships.
During these trips, Joe saw children playing in the streets throughout the day and wondered why they weren’t attending school and quickly realized there was a serious problem with the educational system and realized that he could repay some of the people of the Dominican Republic in a region that is near and dear to his heart and decide to give these children an opportunity that they may not get otherwise.
The Dominican Joe Foundation was founded soon after on the premise that everyone deserves a chance, and this chance begins with education.

Raising money for education in Las Terrenas:

The annual “Getaway & Give” fundraising weekend is counting with severals events to raise money to support the educational needs (with implementation of literacy programs), and provide basic medical services for the impoverished children of Las Terrenas.
A family of extraordinary people from all over the world are coming to laugh, share, enjoy the beauty of this community and invest back in the education of children.
The Dominican Joe Foundation has partnered with several hotels and condo hotels in the area for discounted rates for all of the guests attending the weekend festivities.

The main event of the weekend is the famous White Party who takes place at Balcones del Atlantico in Porto Restaurant on Saturday ending in El Mosquito Art Bar.
On friday a lot of activities are proposed: a BBQ, this past year in Playa Bonita Beach Residence, the Sunset Cocktail Beach Party in a luxurious villa, the Jungle Night Party...

This year was the most SUCCESSFUL fundraising weekend EVER!!!
The gross amount raised was over $50,000 USD which is twice more than the previous year.
None of this could have been possible without the tireless support of the volunteers and the corporate sponsors across the country.
They look forward to a bigger and better next year! They are working too on a possible Miami event for fall of 2017 as well, more details to follow.

« Salud » to the success of 2017 DJF event and hope a lot of residents will be there next year.
